Critically Evaluating Website

Critically Evaluating the Website

Planning stage:
I wanted my website to be simplistic and yet bold, Have less elements but say a lot. The aesthetic of a 'writer' was considered for this and imagery placed according to it. The name of the website is Mo's writing and it is simply that my writing. The template that I used for this is called 'writer', preview of which is available here: Writer Template on wix. I further modified it to have a different font, and look a bit more similar to what I want it to look like which is meant to simplistic and bold.

I did decide to add a tagline for website, a really simple one. 'Stories by Mo, Mo's writing.'. It is meant to let viewer have more personal attachment to the story as it is made by my the writer and the writer alone.

Research:
For my research writer websites I decided to look at two different writer's and their websites. Andy Barton and Beth Demon's websites. Both these writers are professional and have worked in professional environments and have well made websites.

My websites has a total of 5 pages, one of which is still under construction. They are Home, Gallery(Portfolio), the final project(under construction) Contact and About Me. The amount of pages has remained constant but there a lot of changes that were made to each of them. The removal of changes was made at the really start of creation of websites because gallery page had huge amounts of blank pages that were part of the template and those were removed.

Content:
The purpose of this website is to showcase my work as a writer. Readers of fiction, potential hiring companies, fans of my work. It is important to showcase your work as creator as there companies and people need to know what you have done in the past and what your skill level is it helps them make a decision on whether they want to work with you or not. It can even help your fans know what you're currently up to and allow them to access your work.

Design:
The site was made on Wix so majority of elements and tools used are baked in Wix. The header is fixed and is black in colour, on the far left of it is the site navigation but on mobile view it is replaced by a pop up menu. The font for the navigation is sans serif on desktop view but on the mobile view it is sans serif.

There are text boxes in all pages and they contain information regarding the content of that specific page. No image galleries but each section has an associated background image for it to further add to the page's aesthetic. I did not create social media feed but I did add links to the social media so as to not divert the attention of the viewer. The template that I used for this is called 'writer', preview of which is available here: Writer Template on wix. I further modified it to have a different font, and look a bit more similar to what I want it to look like which is meant to simplistic and bold.

Navigation:
My website social media links at the bottom of the home page and on the contact page and I have tested that they work.

My pages are not interconnected but there is a constant header on each page that allows the viewer to go to any major page from any page they are on. I would like to believe my website is easy to navigate. The contact page has a form that allows viewers to send me a message and it goes to both my email and my wix message section.
