Podcast Project: Research on 'Hobby Hunter'
In order to develop and understand what I needed to do for my podcast, I needed to look at another podcast that deals in the same or similar concept, unfortunately I could find the former but I did found a podcast that is similar to I am looking into.
(Headgum, N.D)
"What makes something a hobby? Sydnee Washington is about to find out. She’s interviewing her sexy friends and hot comedians about their hobbies every week, in hopes that she can find herself a new one. Because collecting lights, cooking, and starting fights on the internet just isn’t enough. Or maybe it is?" (Headgum, N.D)
I found Hobby Hunter while google searching and discovered that the podcast covers a wide range of hobbies, from cooking to woodworking to gardening. This confirms that I am on the right track to seek out foreign hobbyists who are passionate about a similarly diverse range of hobbies, in order to get a fuller picture of the different ways people find joy and fulfillment through their leisure activities.
One of the things I appreciate about "Hobby Hunter" is that Sydnee often asks her guests about the cultural context surrounding their hobbies. This leads to me think that I should phrase my questions in such a way that leads to exploring the ways in which culture affects the way we think about and engage in hobbies, and how this might differ across cultures.
Another thing I find interesting is that Sydnee's approach to interviewing her guests is both funny and genuinely curious. She asks great questions and is always willing to learn from her guests. I am consider having the same approach to my own podcast with a similar sense of humor and openness to new ideas.
By taking inspiration from "Hobby Hunter," I feel like I can create a podcast that explores the diverse and fascinating world of hobbies and leisure activities among foreigners in first-world countries. Whether the guests are interested in cooking, sports, music, or any other pursuit, what it ultimately boils down to is how a shift in their environment has led to changes in their hobbies in general.
