Podcast Project: Research on the "JRE" and "Stuff You Should Know"
In order to learn how to properly conduct myself and how podcasts should be approached, I considered looking at the world's most famous Podcasts and found myself listening to the "Joe Rogan Experience" and "Stuff you should know" podcasts. What I got from these two podcasts ultimately gave me a set of guidelines or a 'standard' of what is expected out of a podcast like mine.
(Tenzing, 2021)
The main focus of this podcast is its conversational style. Joe Rogan invites a wide range of guests onto his show, from celebrities and athletes to scientists and activists. He then engages in long-form conversations with them, covering a wide range of topics in a casual and conversational way. This style is highly engaging for listeners, as it feels like you're eavesdropping on an interesting conversation between friends.
(Wilson, 2020)
"Stuff You Should Know" is a highly successful podcast that explores a wide range of topics, from science and history to pop culture and current events. One of the things that makes this podcast so successful is its informative yet accessible style. The hosts, Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant, are able to break down complex topics into easily digestible chunks, making the information accessible to a wide audience. They also incorporate humor and personal anecdotes, which help to keep the show engaging and entertaining.
This way of approach is particularly relevant to my podcast, as we will be exploring hobbies that are unfamiliar to many listeners. By breaking down the history, cultural significance, and technical aspects of different hobbies, I can make them more accessible and interesting to my audience.
Besides the conversational approach, the production quality and overall decorum of these podcasts can provide useful guidance for my Podcast. By looking at how these podcasts are structured and produced, I gained insights into how I can make my podcast look and sound professional. Additionally, by incorporating engaging and well-defined segments, I can help to keep the audience engaged and interested throughout the podcast.
Overall, by studying the styles and formats of successful podcasts like "Stuff You Should Know" and "The Joe Rogan Experience", I learned how to gear my own podcast to any topic, and in this case "a podcast on hobbies of foreigners and how they translate into the 1st world"
