Podcast Project: Research on Pierre Bourdieu and cultural capital
So after careful deliberation and thinking I decided to focus my 'Free' Project as Podcast that talks about cultural differences of hobbies and how well they translate into the first world. I would be inviting guests that passionate about their hobbies and talking to them how well have they been able to indulge in them in a first world country like the UK. Ultimately, what I acquire is raw experiences and emotions from people, giving a whole new perspective that often we are not used.
In order to further develop this idea, I decided to conduct some research onto themes of Cultural activities and hobbies, by searching the internet, I found information on Pierre Bourdieu and how he wrote a study on the topic of 'cultural capital'.
Cultural capital refers to the cultural knowledge, skills, and resources that individuals possess that can help them gain social status and recognition within their communities. Cultural capital can take many forms, including educational credentials, knowledge of art or literature, and participation in cultural activities like hobbies and leisure pursuits. When considering the hobbies of foreigners in first-world countries, Bourdieu's concept of cultural capital can help us understand how these activities may be shaped by cultural factors and contribute to individual's social identity and status.
Bourdieu also recognized that cultural capital is not distributed equally within society, and that individuals from certain backgrounds may have greater access to cultural resources and opportunities than others. For example, a foreigner from a wealthy background may have greater opportunities to participate in expensive hobbies like sailing or golfing, while a foreigner from a working-class background may have limited access to these activities due to financial constraints.
In order to test the concept of cultural capital and see how much merit this holds in real life I'll be going forward with the idea that stated earlier in this post, a podcast where I interview people with hobbies and see how much of an impact their cultural capital has had on their hobbies now that it has increased due to shift in environment (moving to a first world country or UK in this case).
